The water is crystalline and the little beaches are surrounded by lush vegetation: you cruise the southern and wildest part of lake Garda. If the weather is really good, your captain drops the anchor in the blue water: an invitation to swim. Your boat ride includes:
- Punta San Vigilio
- Rocca di Manerba
and the south- west side of the lake: gardens, villas and little, tiny islands.
Sirmione: unmissable! A tiny strip of land stretching in the water, home to the Latin poet Catullus, beyond the imposing Roman ruins, it houses a Medieval castle with dock (and ducks!), olive and lemon trees and famous hot water thermal baths.
You stop for a guided walk in Punta San Vigilio to peer through the private lemon house and Renaissance mansion garden, the way well- educated, aristocrat travelers from Northern Europe used to do in the XIX century. Here you treat yourself to an elegant, quiet waterfront aperitivo.
Another stop is totally disruptive in the atmosphere you have enjoyed so far: Peschiera is... a military place! It is a pentagon- shaped stronghold that staged many significant moments of the epic Italian unification process: the Risorgimento. Here you see multiple layers of recent Italian history, intriguing geography, military architecture, in a surprising contrast with the very lively holiday mood of the village today.
